Tuesday prayer call recap
Spiritual Heart Check
"Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: and see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting."Psalm 139:23-24 (KJV)
Session overview
The call encouraged husbands and wives to keep God at the center of their marriage and seek personal transformation rather than focus only on changing their spouse. Terrie and Donald reflected on lessons from 34 years of marriage, including perseverance through difficult seasons, consistent prayer, and the possibility of healing and renewed joy.
Five key teachings
- Keep God at the center. Build spiritual habits, worship, and pray during difficult seasons. When spouses are not ready to pray together, individual prayer can continue.
- Begin with your own heart. Psalm 139:23-24 was the foundation for asking God to reveal motives, thoughts, hurt and behaviors that need correction.
- Identify inner obstacles. Pride, resentment, jealousy, selfishness, anger, bitterness and unforgiveness can affect the way spouses communicate and respond.
- Receive correction as an opportunity to grow. Conviction leads to repentance and restoration; condemnation leads to shame. Pray for both willingness and strength to change.
- Practice forgiveness with healthy boundaries. Forgiveness may be an ongoing decision. It does not mean accepting abuse, unsafe conduct, or responsibility for another person's choices.
The spiritual heart check: a marriage examination
- Relationship history: What unhealthy habits or unresolved experiences have we brought into the marriage?
- Heartbeat and rhythm: Are we listening, respecting each other, and aligning our actions with our faith?
- Blood pressure: Is the home marked by tension, silence, avoidance or dismissive communication?
- Bloodwork: Is bitterness or unforgiveness quietly accumulating within us?
- Finding blockages: What is keeping love, grace, trust, honesty, prayer, peace and joy from flowing freely?
Personal reflection questions
- What am I carrying from past disagreements that I have not addressed?
- Am I assuming the worst about my spouse or dismissing their feelings?
- Have my words, actions or silence contributed to hurt in our marriage?
- Where do I need to release bitterness, show humility or ask forgiveness?
- What specific change can I make this week with patience, wisdom and love?
Prayer focus and next steps
- Ask God to search and cleanse your heart, reveal hidden patterns, and help you respond with obedience and compassion.
- Pray for your spouse, marriage, family, church leaders and other marriages in need of strengthening.
- Practice a regular personal "heart check" rather than waiting for a crisis to reflect and pray.
- Keep joining the weekly Tuesday prayer gatherings, and invite others who would benefit.
- The ministry encourages Tuesday water-only fasting until 3:00 PM as a voluntary spiritual practice. Consider your own health needs before fasting.
